Wesley Chapel Carpet Cleaning and Care Secrets From The Pros
Don’t Rub Stains Out of the Carpet
If you have a liquid spill on your carpets, one of the worst things that you can do is rub the stain. Rubbing the stain is too aggressive on the fibers of your carpet and can drive the stain deeper into the carpet.
Instead of rubbing stains, take a clean cloth or towel and hold it on the stain applying pressure. Blotting the stain like this will absorb the liquid without damaging the carpet or forcing the stain into the carpet padding.
Ice Cubes Can Help
Ice cubes can remedy a few different problems with carpets.
When you move furniture and you’re left with indentations on your carpet, put ice cubes in the indentation and let them sit. As the ice slowly melts, the carpet fibers absorb the water and plump. After several hours, take a gift card and gently rub the edge of the card over the wet carpet fibers. This will bring the carpet fibers back into their natural position.
If you somehow wind up with gum on your carpet, take an ice cube and hold it on the gum until it’s frozen and hard. Now take a spoon and lift the frozen gum from the carpet. Don’t scrub or aggressively try to free the gum. If you find that the gum is still stuck firmly to your carpet, it may be time to call in a professional carpet cleaner to help with the job. Some websites recommend that you lift the gum and cut the carpet fibers underneath it, but this can cause one spot of your carpet to look odd, so we don’t recommend it. Opt to call a professional instead, they have the proper tools for the job.
Dish Detergent Can Be Your Best Friend
If you have a grease stain or oil stain on your carpet, grab a gentle dish detergent like Dawn. Add a couple of drops of the detergent to a cup of water and use a clean spray bottle to spray the stain with the mixture. Once wet, wait a few seconds and then blot the stain. If you still see traces of the stain, repeat this process. You may need to repeat a few times to lift the stain completely.
When using this method always be sure to use a very gentle dish soap and don’t oversoak your carpet.
